Kurzweil Workstations Available At UNB Libraries

Kurzweil workstations, including Kurzweil 3000 software and compatible scanners, are now available at the Harriet Irving, Science and Forestry, and Engineering libraries.

Kurzweil 3000 is an advanced scanning and reading solution for people who are visually impaired or have reading or learning difficulties, and includes the following features:

New UNBF Libraries Website Launched

The new version of the library website was launched on August 11th.

Quest Unavailable On Sunday, August 10th

Quest, the UNB library catalogue, will be unavailable on Sunday, Aug. 10. The system will be shut down that day to rebuild the indexes. It’s expected that Quest will be available as usual Monday morning.

Scholars Portal Being Phased Out

Currently the UNB Libraries website provides duplicated access to the Elsevier and Academic Press e-journals. Please note that as of August 1, access to Elsevier e-journals through Scholars Portal will be phased out and we will rely solely on access through Science Direct. If you have bookmarks for Scholar’s Portal, these should be updated to the new SD URLs.

Library Sources Session For UNB Employees Set For June 24

A hands-on session will be offered on Tuesday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Instructional Learning Centre Lab at the Harriet Irving Library. Instruction will cover online newspapers, consumer information and encyclopedias available from your desktop.

Information On The Library Storage Project

UNB Libraries is undertaking to move materials this summer to the new storage facility at the back of the Provincial Archives building. The move will create room for the growth of the collection and will allow us to add much-needed study space in the Harriet Irving Library.

Invitation To Summer Reading

Some time ago, former UNB librarian Suzanne Chaney made a donation of several thousand dollars to UNB specifying that the gift be used to acquire books “good for the soul.” We have taken this to mean books that satisfy intellectual curiosity, nurture an inquiring mind, inspire, or simply – if there’s anything simple about that – provide pleasure and amusement.

Paintings And Prints On Display At Harriet Irving Library
