Archives & Special Collections

In accordance with the COVID-19 UNB operational plan, UNB Archives & Special Collections, located in the Harriet Irving Library on the Fredericton campus is now open for in-person research for UNB and STU students, faculty and staff only. To make an in-person research appointment, please email with a detailed explanation of your research request. We continue to respond to requests for consultation or reference questions from researchers outside of the UNB/STU community via email ( or phone (506-453-4748) during our regular business hours.

Collections of books and periodicals (c.48,000) which, for a variety of reasons, are held apart from the main library areas, are housed in the Archives & Special Collections Department of the Harriet Irving Library. Also found here are c.6,066 ft. of UNB's institutional records and private papers (historical and literary) relevant to New Brunswick.

All members of the university community as well as those outside the university are welcome to use the resources and services of the department.
