Cambridge Histories Online

Courtesy of UNB’s Department of History, students, faculty and staff now have access to Cambridge Histories Online via UNB Libraries’ website. All 260 volumes, published since 1960 and updated regularly, are now part of the libraries’ online complement.

The package includes the 19-volume Cambridge Ancient History, the 13-volume Cambridge Modern History and an array of other titles related to American History, British History, Economic History, History of Science, History of the Book, History of Language and Linguistics, Literary History, Music History, History of Philosophy, Political History, Regional History, History of Religion, History of Theatre, and the History of Warfare.

Library Press Display is your one-stop online newspaper database that enables faculty, students and staff to access approx. 1400 full-colour and full-image newspapers from more than 82 countries in 39 different languages.  Newspapers are searchable and have a rolling 60 day archive.

Renovations Underway – HIL Map Room

Patrons should be aware that renovations are currently underway in the Map Room area – third floor in the Harriet Irving Library (HIL). For assistance locating materials in the Map Room, please contact staff at the Government Documents Info. Desk (located on the third floor).

Study space is available on all floors of Harriet Irving Library. Students who crave quiet should try HIL’s 4th floor (either the Beaverbrook Room or our individual study carrels).

LibQUAL Winners Announced

Following the completion of the LibQUAL+™ survey, a draw for prize winners took place at the Harriet Irving Library on April 12, 2010. Lesley Balcom, Associate Director of Libraries (Fredericton), drew from among our eligible entries to select the name of three lucky winners:

Grand Prize (Apple iPad): Frank Molley Jr.
Second Prize ($100 University Bookstore Card): Jennifer Ryan
Third Prize ($75 University Bookstore Card): Tiernan Murphy

Congratulations to our winners, and many thanks to everyone who participated in LibQUAL+™ 2010. Just over 1200 responses were received from our Fredericton and Saint John campuses and your feedback will provide valuable guidance as we plan for the future at UNB Libraries.

Current Trials – New Products

UNB Libraries is pleased to offer faculty, students and staff the opportunity to test-drive a variety of electronic resources offered to our librarians for evaluation purposes.

To access any of the electronic products currently under trial, place your mouse over Resources/Collections in the red navigation bar on the library homepage>> select Current Trials from the drop-down menu and you will be directed to the following URL:

The Trials page gives a brief description, trial dates, and online access to each product under review. Your feedback on any product is appreciated and welcomed.
