Sea Stacks At Low Tide, an exhibition of Atlantic Canadian books for Children and Young Adults, is taking place in the Eileen Wallace Collection of  Harriet Irving Library during Congress. The exhibition runs from May 28th-June 3rd Saturday & Sunday, 1-4pm; Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Members of the public as well as those attending the Congress of the Social Sciences & Humanities are encouraged to attend.

The Eileen Wallace Collection at the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton) is the largest research collection of children’s literature in Atlantic Canada. Its holdings are historically and regionally diverse, with an extensive representation of literature published in, by and about Atlantic Canada. Visit us at www.lib.unb.ca/collections/clc/

District 18’s Enriching Visual Literacies Project saw children from two Fredericton-area elementary schools spend time learning about artistic techniques and the principles of visual literacy before producing their own picture books. A number of these books will be on display alongside a broader sampling of Atlantic Canadian books for children and young adults from the Wallace Collection.

Sea Stacks At Low Tide grows out of a larger collaborative research project among Dalhousie and Acadia Universities and the University of New Brunswick, entitled Sea Stacks: Atlantic Canadian Books for Children and Young Adults, 1978-2011,  seastacks.ca/info

Dr. Sam Trosow, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, University of Western Ontario; Chair, CAUT Copyright Advisory Group; and noted copyright blogger will give a lecture and lead a discussion forum regarding the copyright issues which impact university communities.  The discussion will cover Access Copyright, Fair Dealing Guidelines, future copyright legislation and more.

This event, jointly sponsored by UNB Libraries and AUNBT, takes place on Monday May 30th, from 10:30 am until 12 noon in the ETC Lab on the 5th floor of the Harriet Irving Library.

UPDATE: All upgrades to UNB’s Internet service have been completed and full access to library services should be restored.

On Saturday, June 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. (six hours) all Internet access for those located on the UNB Fredericton campus will be unavailable due to maintenance. This includes UNB’s WebMail, BlackBoard, the myUNB Portal and access to CANET.

For those located off the Fredericton campus, all of UNB’s online services, including the UNB website and WebMail, will be unavailable during this time.

This will also include interruptions to the access to Quest, the proxy server & online e-Resources and the library web servers from off the Fredericton campus.

UNB now operates outside a tariff or collective agreement with respect to copyright.  This new copyright environment has made it more important than ever that faculty and staff are aware of the provisions and restrictions within the current legislation.  Sessions for UNB Faculty and Staff will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm.  Sessions will last approximately 45 minutes and are intended primarily to assist course instructors as they prepare material for upcoming courses.

Sessions will provide information about UNB’s Copyright Policy and Copyright Guidelines, including the use of Library Course Reserves and best practices in the use of licensed materials.

Sessions will be held at intervals throughout the summer.
