Engineering Library Closes At Noon

Due to the closure of the front lobby area (July 23- August 17), Harriet Irving Library

Temporary Relocation Of HIL Entrance (July 23-Aug. 17)

Beginning Monday, July 23, the main entrance/lobby area of the Harriet Irving Library (HIL) will be closed in order to complete the final phase of the new Learning Commons project.

Public access to HIL will be via a new door at the rear of the building. Directional signs will be posted to alert patrons to the changes.

Hours for Harriet Irving Library during this period will be as follows:

Library Closed – July 14

Due to a planned power outage in Head Hall on Saturday, July 14, all campus IT services will be unavailable between 7:00 a.m. – midnight. Consequently, Harriet Irving Library will be closed on July 14 and will re-open on Monday, July 16 at 8:00am.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. Questions concerning the power outage should be directed to the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@unb.ca or 453-5199.

New Borrowing Policy – July 16

UNB Libraries has implemented a new borrowing policy that becomes effective on July 16, 2007.

The most notable changes to the policy are:

  • 2 week loan period for undergraduate borrowers (with a guarantee of 2 weeks in case of a recall)
  • daily fine system of $1 per day/per item to a maximum of $10 (from the current $10 fine imposed after 30 days past due)

In creating the new policy, UNB Libraries’ staff examined current policies at other academic libraries and also considered our patrons’ borrowing habits and perceived desires. The aim of the new borrowing policy is to optimize the availability and use of library resources and to promote equity of access to information.
