UNB Libraries invites students, faculty, staff,  and on-campus guests to our Summer Cinema Series, to be held Thursday evenings throughout July.

Each week we will dip into an eclectic collection of quality films to present a feature that riffs on such perennial summer themes as music, love, and destiny.

Viewings will take place in our air-conditioned Milham Room in the Harriet Irving Library Learning Commons.  Showtime is 7:00 PM.  Admission is free.

Refreshments will be provided.

UNB Libraries is proud to announce that one of their own librarians, James (Jamie) MacKenzie of Harriet Irving Library, is the recipient of a 2007-08 UNB Merit Award. UNB Merit Awards recognize outstanding contributions by both faculty and librarians in teaching, research and university service.

Jamie has played an integral role in providing instruction services to students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The success of the HIL Learning Commons, in particular the Commons Accessibility Centre, is a credit to his vision and efforts.

Congratulations Jamie from all the staff at UNB Libraries!

Canadian Learning Commons Conference 3: Building On Success

This news post is more than one year old. Some information may have changed.

UNB Libraries is hosting the third annual Canadian Learning Commons Conference (CLCC) between June 8-10th 2008. We are bringing together an exciting array of speakers from universities and community colleges in the Atlantic Region and beyond – all of whom share our interest in bringing critical research services into one venue for our students.

The program includes a pre-conference workshop, “Success with Assessment,” led by Steve Hiller, Director of Assessment and Planning, at the University of Washington Libraries in Seattle, Washington. The keynote, “Engaging Millennial Students, will be offered by Richard Sweeney, University Librarian at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Our program will also offer many perspectives in the Learning Commons framework, from on-the-ground participants including libraries, information technology services, writing centres, accessibility services, to those with a broader scope, including university administrators, community college educators, and those who gather student feedback in satisfaction surveys on all aspects of higher education.

We anticipate that the conference will also draw in members of our UNB and STU communities with an interest in learning and teaching. For more information, please take a look at the website //www.lib.unb.ca/CLCC3/
