Geography Awareness Week was established by the National Geographic Association and other members of the geographic community in 1987 to celebrate the importance of geography in schools and universities. As part of the week-long celebrations, November 19 is designated as “GIS Day”, to highlight the role of geomatics in understanding our environment.
This year, the theme of Geography Awareness Week is “Our Habitats” which, in New Brunswick, include our evolving forests, wildlife areas, and our urban centres.
