Publishing & Open Access
We know publishing trends move fast and staying on top of open access can seem overwhelming. Many publishers don't make it easy to understand your options. UNB Libraries can offer hands-on support in:
- facilitating free and legal open access through self-archiving in open repositories;
- finding discounts or waivers for open access article processing charges (APCs);
- unpacking and complying with funder mandates (for example, the Tri-Agency Policy on Publications);
- supporting sustainable scholarly publishing practices.

Academic Integrity
It's becoming increasingly important that the products of your research are discoverable and properly attributed. If you'd like to take control of your research profile and/or leverage tools to collect and disseminate information about your work, we're happy to assist with any of the following:
- supporting the creation/maintainance of an ORCiD profile;
- asserting your authorship and research relationships through better metadata;
- learning more about where your work is indexed and discoverable;
- using and understanding persistent identifiers (eg. DOIs, ORCiD, and ROR).

Copyright
As both an instructor, and a researcher, copyright is an essential element to consider. At UNB Libraries, we can support:
- informing you on authors’ rights;
- interpreting publishing agreements, including what methods of sharing are allowed;
- selecting a Creative Commons license in the context of open access publishing;
- understanding how copyrighted materials can be utilized in your instruction.

Open Educational Resources (OER)
Course materials are increasingly expensive and inaccessible for students. Open Educational Resources, or OER, are viable alternatives to traditional textbooks. OER are educational materials that are free and openly licensed, allowing for their adoption or adaptation. You can also create your own OER. At UNB Libraries, we support:
- finding relevant OER for your courses;
- evaluating the quality of these resources;
- interpreting Creative Commons licensing and outlining how this impacts your potential use;
- making changes to adhere to accessibility best practices;
- platform support on leading OER publishing platforms.
