E-Books Now Available From The UNB Libraries

This news post is more than one year old. Some information may have changed.

A new database of electronic books is now available to UNB faculty, students and staff from the library website. The Academic Complete database [from ebrary] provides simultaneous, multi-user access to more than 19,200 full-text books, reports, and other authoritative documents from over 180 leading publishers. PDF technology provides an online replica of each document’s print version.

Academic Complete is multi-disciplinary and covers Business & Economics, Computers & Technology, Humanities, Life & Physical Sciences and Social & Behavior Sciences. It also includes a rich collection of more than 1050 maps.

These titles will eventually be accessible through Quest [UNB Libraries’ online catalogue]. In the meantime, to search the database and read a book, go to e-Resources on the library website, select Reference Materials and choose “ebrary” . Printing is permitted although limited, generally to five pages at a time.

It may be necessary to download the ebrary Reader to access the material. This is easily and quickly done from any computer and instructions are provided as the user clicks through. Please note the special access instructions for web browsers other than Explorer or Netscape Navigator 4.x.

Funding for this new service to library users comes in part from a UNB Academic Services Investment Fund grant. A one-year license has been signed and a usage assessment at the end of the year will determine whether or not the service is continued.

We would be very happy to receive your comments about the database and its usefulness in meeting your research and teaching requirements. Please address any comments to Jocelyne Thompson, Head, Collections Development and Public Services, at 458-7053 or at jlt@unb.ca.
