Fun with GIS Software: Mapping Your Research
Date: 31 January 2015, 10am – 4pm

Have you ever wanted to map your data, but weren’t sure where to start? If so this workshop is for you. UNB Libraries Data/GIS Librarian, Siobhan Hanratty, will introduce you to some basic concepts which will help you on your way. During this workshop you will explore sources of geospatial data and decide which is best suited to your needs; download and clip/extract/select your geography; join your own numeric data to the geospatial data; and visualize your newly joined datasets according to your needs.
During this workshop you will be provided with data; however, time and circumstances permitting, you may have an opportunity to work with your own data, so feel free to bring it along.
Space is limited, and regsitration is required. The workshop is free of charge to students, faculty and staff of UNB, and is intended for the absolute beginner. No experience with GIS software necessary!

Access more than 7,000 films through our new streaming video resource, KANOPY!
Search the film collections to find material related to your research interests, teaching material that could be used in the classroom and/or linked within Desire2Learn or Moodle, or material for personal interest.
Kanopy provides access to thousands of films from a wide range of distributors, including Criterion Collection/Janus Films, First Run Features, Green Planet Films, BBCActive, HBO, PBS, Cliofilm, and many others. Check out the full list of suppliers.

This session includes a brief overview of the UNB Copyright Guidelines and provides an opportunity for Staff and Faculty to ask specific or general questions about distributing content to students in the classroom or online.
Copyright sessions with an emphasis on the needs of course instructors continue to be offered periodically. Additional sessions will be added in response to demand. Please let us know if you or your department or faculty has an interest in having an additional session scheduled.

UNB Libraries is pleased to announce the purchase of an online premium subscription to the Financial Times via FT.com!
Find current full-text articles from the Financial Times and the latest international business, finance, economic and political news, analysis, data, and tools, plus RSS feeds.

Access is IP-authenticated. Coverage extends from November 28, 2005 until the current date. The database is updated daily (except Sunday).
To ensure access to the premium features of the FT website, faculty/students can sign up for an individual account using a valid UNB/STU email address. Users can also view the Financial Times on mobile devices by downloading the appropriate FT apps.

Your Libraries are committed to supporting students, faculty, and staff in their learning, research and teaching. To ensure that the university community is well informed of our resources, services, and events, we are undertaking a full communications evaluation.
We want to continue to build on our strengths. We are always looking for ways to improve and develop. During this process an external firm, MediaStyle, will assess all aspects of our communications. This process will result in strategic information that will allow us to improve our communications.
