Century Of Scouting Exhibit

This news post is more than one year old. Some information may have changed.

UNB Libraries is proud to host “A Century of Scouting” a new exhibition celebrating the centennial anniversary (1907-2007) of scouting.

Installed and guest-curated by Helen C. Craig, retired librarian and long-time scouter, the exhibit chronicles, through memorabilia, the story of local scouting activities as influenced by provincial, national, and world organisations. Also highlighted are the significant contributions made to scouting by some of the University of New Brunswick’s faculty, staff, students, and graduates.

The exhibition, in the H.R. Stewart Exhibition Room, 5th floor, Harriet Irving Library (5 Macaulay Lane, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton), can be viewed Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and will continue until 31 August 2007.

For more information, please contact Helen Craig at 472-4886 or Archives & Special Collections @ 453-4748 (e-mail: archives@unb.ca).

Are You Keeping Up or Falling Behind?

Presenter:
Gwendolyn MacNairn
Computer Science Librarian
Dalhousie University

Students expect to be directed toward not only good papers and books to read, but other resources that support content being taught in class.

BLINK! It might be time to update your “current awareness” skills. Whether you use podcasts, YouTube, eBooks, blogs, wikis, or RSS feeds, there is more and more content being added to the collective knowledgebase everyday. Finding relevant content can be a challenge but Google is having a positive impact – not only on the web but on more traditional library resources.

This session will include updates on Google Print and Google Scholar, and will discuss several provocative questions and reconnect you with your digital library.

To take HCPP for a test-drive, please go to Indexes and Abstracts and select “House of Commons Parliamentary Papers” from the Browse by Title listing.

Commons Enters Final Phase

This news post is more than one year old. Some information may have changed.

The Harriet Irving Library (HIL) is undergoing the final phase of its Learning Commons renovation. This last stage of the project, which will continue over the summer months, will see the current Circulation Desk and Periodical Reading Room areas transformed into a commons for research, learning, and sharing of ideas.

To accommodate renovations, the Circulation Desk has moved to a temporary location across from the HIL coffee shop – Gutenbrews. HIL’s book drop has also moved to the west side of the building (signs are posted to alert patrons).
