New HIL Study Space Open

The Milham Room (Room 100) in the Harriet Irving Library (HIL) is a comfortable new study space that is now open for study/research needs. The room is equipped with tables and seating for approx. 60. Students are most welcome to drop-in and check out the new space.

There are now a total of three areas on the first floor of HIL available for student learning – Learning Lab – Room 112, the Milham Room – Room 100, and the Seminar Room – Room 109. Each room is available for student use when the rooms are not booked for library instruction sessions.

UNB Libraries is pleased to offer students, faculty and staff the opportunity to test-drive a variety of electronic products offered to our librarians for evaluation purposes.

To access any of the electronic products currently under trial, select “Current Trials” from the e-Resources drop down menu.

Printer Hub In HIL Learning Commons

All print jobs sent on HIL’s 1st floor can be easily accessed from our centralized Printer Hub located in the main Learning Commons area (beside the Research Help Desk).

UNB Libraries is pleased to announce that LIVE, our virtual reference service, is now available from the new Learning Commons area.

Take LIVE for a test-drive and discover an online real-time environment where students can work collaboratively with HIL library staff to find library resources. Following each session, students receive an emailed transcript of their session.

LIVE is available Mondays through Thursdays, from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. Look for the link under Ask a Librarian on the UNB Libraries’ home page, //www.lib.unb.ca.

OED Online

A staple of our print reference collection, the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), recently made its online debut on the UNB Libraries’ website. The Times describes the OED as “the ultimate authority of the English language as well as a history of English speech and thought from its infancy to the present day.”

Each OED entry provides: definitions, current pronunciation, alternate spellings, etymology, quotations plus a date chart. OED is updated quarterly with over 1,800 new or revised words.

To try OED online, from the library website, click on e-Resources >> Reference Materials and choose “Dictionaries
