Literature Online (LION) is a new online collection of full-text English language poetry, drama, prose fiction, literary biography, and criticism representing nearly every major literary period and genre from the middle ages to the twentieth century.
Take LION for a test drive and you will discover that it provides searchable access to:
- full-text electronic versions of more than 350,000 works of English poetry, drama and prose;
- over 3000 detailed author biographies;
- individual bibliographies for more than 1300 authors;
- 168 full-text journals;
- full-text electronic versions of eight dictionaries and encyclopedias, and;
- “Poets on Screen,” a collection of multi-media clips featuring authors reading from their own works and others.
LION is currently available through the “Reference Materials” page of the UNB Libraries web site (select “Literature” from the list of categories).
LION also provides access to the Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL). Based on the annual print publication by the Modern Humanities Research Association, ABELL provides access to literary theory and criticism though bibliographic records for monograph materials, journal articles, doctoral dissertations and book reviews published since 1920, with selected materials included from 1892 – 1919. The bibliography is fully integrated with and cross-searchable from within LION, or can be searched separately by selecting “Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL)” from the titles list of the “Indexes and Abstracts” page of the library website.
