HIL Display – Canadian Award Winning Books

Drop by Harriet Irving Library and take in a wonderful display of Canadian award-winning books from the Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design.

The exhibition is located in the H.R. Stewart Exhibition Room, 5th floor, Harriet Irving Library and can be viewed from Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m until August 15, 2008.

The thirty-five winning titles will be exhibited internationally at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, and in Germany at the Frankfurt and Leipzig Book Fairs. Nationally the books will travel from coast-to-coast over the next six months. Fredericton’s Harriet Irving Library will be the only stop in New Brunswick.

The Alcuin Society is a Vancouver based non-profit society for the support and appreciation of fine books.

Chill Out In The Library This Summer

The air-conditioned group study rooms in HIL’s Learning Commons are a big success with UNB and STU students.

There are four study rooms on the newly air-conditioned first floor of HIL. Most rooms offer SMART Board™ capability.

UNB/STU student study groups are welcome to make bookings for two hour periods. Please contact HIL’s Commons Service Desk at 453-4756.

Summer Cinema Series

UNB Libraries invites students, faculty, staff,  and on-campus guests to our Summer Cinema Series, to be held Thursday evenings throughout July.

Each week we will dip into an eclectic collection of quality films to present a feature that riffs on such perennial summer themes as music, love, and destiny.

Viewings will take place in our air-conditioned Milham Room in the Harriet Irving Library Learning Commons.  Showtime is 7:00 PM.  Admission is free.

Refreshments will be provided.

UNB Merit Award Winner @ HIL

UNB Libraries is proud to announce that one of their own librarians, James (Jamie) MacKenzie of Harriet Irving Library, is the recipient of a 2007-08 UNB Merit Award. UNB Merit Awards recognize outstanding contributions by both faculty and librarians in teaching, research and university service.

Jamie has played an integral role in providing instruction services to students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The success of the HIL Learning Commons, in particular the Commons Accessibility Centre, is a credit to his vision and efforts.

Congratulations Jamie from all the staff at UNB Libraries!
