SPANISH EMBASSY FILM SERIES PRESENTS: Flores de Otro Mundo/Flowers from Another World

The Spanish Embassy, UNB Libraries, and the Dept. of Culture & Language Studies present the award-winning Spanish film, “Flores de Otro Mundo/Flowers from Another World” from 1999.  This free public screening will be held on Wednesday, Nov 7, 2012 at 7:00 pm in the Milham Room (Room 100), Harriet Irving Library, UNB Campus (free parking).

Based on a true story, this is a melodrama, written and directed by one of the foremost modern women filmmakers in Spain, Icíar Bollaín.  Santa Eulalia is a small Spanish town that is losing many of its jobs and young people to corporate agriculture and the lure of big cities. The men of the town, in an effort to find partners, organize a visit for prospective singles. From diverse backgrounds, Patricia, Milady and Marirrosi arrive and expose the tensions between sexual liberation, patriarchal society and modernity. This film examines the intersections of racism, sexism and the remnants of colonialism in contemporary Spain.

Please note, the next film in our series –Días de futbol/Soccer Days- will be shown on Dec. 5. Save the date!

Journal Citation Reports (JCR)

This news post is more than one year old. Some information may have changed.

Journal Citation Reports (JCR) offers a systematic, objective means to critically evaluate the world’s leading journals, with quantifiable, statistical information based on citation data. By compiling articles’ cited references, JCR helps to measure research influence and impact at the journal and category levels, and shows the relationship between citing and cited journals.

JCR calculates a journal’s impact factor (i.e., the “scholarly worth” of a journal) by adding the number of citations that the journal has garnered and then dividing this figure by the number of items.

Read how Thomson Reuters’ impact factors are calculated or watch an Impact Factor Tutorial.

For further information, see UNB Libraries’ Guide to Making Citations Count.
