Books in Special Collections
Records for the majority of books housed in Special Collections are searchable through UNB WorldCat, UNB Libraries' on-line catalogue. For the retrieval of books from Special Collections, a book retrieval form (available at the Archives Information Desk) must be completed for EACH ITEM REQUESTED. Please note that the full call number AND location code (eg. HIL-SPECAR, HIL-SPECRB, HIL-SPECH) must be provided.
Many of the books in Special Collections are also available in the main stacks of the Harriet Irving Library. When a copy is available in the main stacks, we request that you use that one to help preserve the preservation copy.
University Archives, Private (Historical & Literary) Papers/Manuscripts
Archival research takes time and an on-site visit is required. In most cases, a reference interview with Archives' staff is recommended.
Finding aids prepared by Archives Staff can provide information on contents of archival collections. Most finding aids are accessible via our database The Gateway.
Photographs in Archives & Special Collections
The University Archives Photograph Collection (UA PC) contains images depicting all aspects of campus life, including pictures of campus buildings and landscapes, sporting events, social activities, and individual and group portraits. Photographs in this collection have been scanned and images are accessible via The Gateway. HINT: To search for images only, please click on the "Digital Resources" tab or on the "Image" tab that shows up at the top of the search results under the search box.
Most of UNB's class composite photographs, dating from the late 19th century to the mid-1950s, have also been scanned and are accessible through our UNB Class Composite and Group Photographs Database.
There are also photographs scattered throughout many of the manuscript collections. Many of these photographs have been scanned and are searchable through The Gateway.
