History: While advocates of the popular parties were already active on campus, the Political Club was formed by a group of students of varying political beliefs interested in promoting political education and student involvement in politics.

Note(s): Talk of founding a political club emerged in the winter of 1946, but efforts over the next several years were frustrated by organizational difficulties and opposition from the S.R.C.
