History: The UNB Scientific Society was established in 1931 under the guidance of Professor C. W. Argue of the Department of Biology. Initial membership included Dr. C. C. Jones as Honorary President, professors from the Faculty of Science, senior students majoring in a Science subject, and Honours students in scientific studies; Junior and Sophomore students were allowed to attend but without voting priveledges. Membership to this society also included certain Fredericton residents involved in the sciences, but otherwise unconnected with the University.
The principle objectives of the Society were to raise the standard of scientific work conducted at the University by increasing co-operation between departments and to expose students to current research in the physical sciences.
