Jennie M. Hornosty received her PhD in Sociology from York University and arrived at UNB as a member of the Sociology Department in 1980. Dr. Hornosty has been involved with the Women's Studies Programme at UNB since its inception. In 1989, she became the first woman President of the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT). In 1999, Dr. Hornosty received the Sarah Shorten Award given by the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) for her "outstanding contributions to the advancement of women on campus and beyond." Firmly committed to feminist and critical perspectives, much of her current research focuses on wife abuse. Her teaching interests include health and illness, sociological theory, and the sociology of women and gender.
