History: The Department of Business Administration at the University of New Brunswick was formed within the Faculty of Arts in 1952, with the help and cooperation of several New Brunswick business firms and professional associations, who saw the need for people with specialized training in the field of business organization and management. The first students graduated from the department in 1954. On 1st July 1975 the Department was superseded by the School of Administration and on 1st July 1980 the School became the Faculty of Administration.

The first full-time professor and Department Head, Edward D. Maher, was hired in 1954 and remained in this position until 1967. In 1967, William J. Reddin assumed the role of Acting Head of Department; he was succeeded as Acting Head by Patrick T. Kehoe in 1969. Professor Harold A. Sharp served as Chairman of the Department/School from 1972 to 1980. Professor Eric N. West became the first Dean of the Faculty of Administration, followed in 1983 by Professor Kunhiraman P. K. Nair. Over a thirty year period (1954-1984) enrolment grew from thirty-nine students to over one thousand.
