Erin Moure

Erin Mouré was the University of New Brunswick's twenty-third writer-in-residence during the 2004-2005 school year. Born in Calgary on the 17th of April, 1955, Mouré completed one year of an arts degree at the University of Calgary (1972-73), then won a scholarship to attend a creative writing course at the Banff Centre of the Arts, where she studied with Al Purdy. In 1975, Mouré moved to Vancouver where she continued her arts degree with a major in philosophy at the University of British Columbia. She taught at Upper Canada Writer's Workshop in 1984, and was also writer-in-residence at the University of Calgary. She taught creative writing at UNB for a number of years as well.

In 1983 she won the National Magazine Du Maurier Award for Poetry (Gold), and won the Pat Lowther memorial in 1985. In 1988, she won the Govorner General's Award for her collection of poetry Furious. She was the co-winner of the 1990 QSPELL Prize for Poetry, was short listed for the Canadian Griffin Prize in 2001, and was a finalist for the Governer General's Award again in 2002.

While acting as UNB's writer-in-residence, Erin Mouré hosted the Babel Poetry Fiesta, a polylingual evening of poetry readings held on November 23rd, 2004.

Erin Mouré was preceded by Ken McGoogan and succeeded by Catherine Bush.
