History: The UNB Summer Players presented outdoor, open air plays in front of the Arts Building during the spring and summer months, with the building's terrace and walkway acting as an ampitheatre. During the first year, 700 students and community members attended.
Activities: The group performed plays for the public of Fredericton during the summer.
Note(s): No admission was charged for attendance, though voluntary contributions were welcome. Primary funding for the productions came from local businesses.
During the 1953 season, two one act plays were performed: "Another Way Out," an American comedy by Lawrence Lagner, and "Coral Strands," a modern English play first produced in London in 1945. The summer plays were directed by Frederick Whitney. The intermission entertainment between the two play that season was an old fashioned duel between two members of the Fencing Club.
