Artists-in-Residence

In 1956 a committee comprised of faculty and the then-director of the Art Centre, Lucy Jarvis, made a request to establish an Artist-in-Residence position at UNB. Mr. Goodridge Roberts was the first appointment in 1959, followed by Bruno Bobak in 1960, and Donald Reichert in 1961.

In 1962 Bruno Bobak returned as Artist-in-Residence after a one year hiatus. He also took on the role of Director for the University of New Brunswick Art Centre. Though his wife, Molly Lamb Bobak, was not an Artist-in-Residence, she taught classes in the Art Centre. Together, they were an artistic duo that played a very active role in the arts community at UNB and in New Brunswick. Bruno Bobak was the last appointed Artist-in-Residence at UNB. When he retired as director of the Art Centre in 1986, he was given the title of Painter-in-Residence. In 1990, he was given the title of Honorary Painter-in-Residence.
