Zotero Directions

Exporting / Importing: Directions

With Zotero, you can export/import citations from all of the indexing/abstracting databases and electronic journal collections offered through UNB Libraries. See Getting your References into Zotero from this Zotero Tutorial and visit our Zotero subject guide for more information.

Export/import directions for specific databases are provided below or use the Database Index to select a database.

  • Use the Zotero browser plugin or bookmarklet to harvest citation information or enter it manually. To manually create an entry in Zotero, select File and New Item.
  • Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Digital Library
  1. Conduct a search.
  2. To export entire search results, select BibTeX from Export Results and save the file on your computer.
  3. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  4. The saved references will appear in your Zotero account.
  1. To export individual citations, view the citation you wish to save in full format and select BibTeX fom Export Formats.
  2. Save the file on your computer.
  3. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.

  2. To export a single citation or an entire list of search results, select the check box beside the citation and choose Download Citation.
  3. Select the RIS or BibTeX file formats and Download Citation(s).
  4. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  5. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  3. Choose BibTeX and Download.
  4. Save the file on your computer.

  2. Choose the record you would like to export and click Export citations.
  3. Select the Papers, Zotero, Reference Manager, RefWorks (.RIS) option.
  4. Save the file on your computer.
  5. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  6. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Place a checkmark beside items you would like to export.
  3. From the Actions menu, select the download icon.
  4. Since RIS is already checked as the default file format, choose from the Citation format options (citation only, citation + abstract, or full record) and click Export.
  5. Save the file on your computer.
  6. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  7. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  2. Select the items you want to export and click on Expot Citation.
  3. Click Export again.
  4. Select RIS Export to Mendeley, EndNote, RefWorks, Zotero and save the file on your computer.

  6. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  2. Export your search results by clicking the link as bibtex located above your results.
  3. Save the file on your computer.
  4. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  5. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  2. Place a checkmark beside items you would like to export.
  3. Click the radio button Download to citation manager and click Go.
  4. Under Citation Abstracts, click Download all citations on this page to my citation manager.
  5. Under Citation Manager Formats, select Zotero RIS format from the list.
  6. Save the file on your computer.
  7. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  8. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  2. To export a single citation or an entire list of search results, select the check box beside the citation and choose Save.
  3. Select the RIS file format and Continue.
  4. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  5. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  1. Perform a search and mark the references you wish to export.
  2. Click on Download.
  3. Select BibTeX under Format and click Save.
  4. Save the file to your computer.
  5. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  6. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  1. Conduct your search and mark the records you want to export.
  2. Click on the My Folder link at the top of the page that appears when you begin to mark the search records.
  3. Click on Citation Tools in the Tools list at the left side of the page.
  4. At the next screen, choose either EndNote, ProCite or Reference Manager, which all generate an RIS file, and click Export.
  5. Save the file to your computer.
  6. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  7. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  1. Perform a search and mark the items you wish to save by checking the check box.
  2. Select Download Citations (at the top of the list).
  3. From the dropdown menu, choose BibTeX, decide whether to export Citations only, or Citations & Abstracts, and click Download.
  4. Save the file to your computer.
  5. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  6. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  • Taylor and Francis Online
  1. Conduct a search.
  2. Click on the item title you want to save.
  3. Find the option to Download Citation.
  4. Use the default RIS file format.
  5. Click on Download Citations.
  6. Save the file to your computer.
  7. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  8. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  3. Click Export citation below the first search item and select export to Reference manager (RIS).

  3. Choose RIS from the Export to dropdown menu, select one option from Fields to Display and click Export Citation(s).
  4. Save the file to you computer.
  5. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.

  1. Perform a search and mark the items you wish to save by checking the check box.
  2. Click the Export link which appears in the grey menu box at the top of the result list.
  3. Choose RIS Format as the file format.
  4. Choose whether to export citations only, citations and abstracts, citations, abstarcts and references, or all available information.
  5. Click the Export button.
  6. Save the file to your computer.
  7. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  8. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

If you are not using Zotero's browser plugins to harvest citations, records must be exported one at a time.

  1. Conduct a search.
  2. Click on the item title you want to save.
  3. Find the option to Export Citation.
  4. Use the default RIS file format.
  5. Save the file to your computer.
  6. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  7. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.
When exporting individual records:
  1. Perform a search and click the record you want to export.
  2. Click Cite/Export.
  3. Select EndNote / Reference Manager in the Export a citation section, which will generate an RIS file.
  4. Save the file on your computer.
  5. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  6. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.
When exporting multiple records:
  1. Create a free account in WorldCat (perform a search and go to the top-right corner).
  2. Perform a search and choose the items you want exported from a given search-results page. If you "select all" items, you can export citations from one search-results page at a time.
  3. Click Save beside the New List dropdown menu.
  4. Name your list and click Create New List.
  5. To access your list, click the my list link located on the green banner above your search results or enter your WorldCat account in the top-right corner.
  6. Once inside your WorldCat account, select your list by its name.
  7. Go inside the Citations View tab.
  8. Find Export selected references as and select to RIS from the dropdown menu and click Export.
  9. Save the file on your computer.
  10. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  11. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.
 
  1. Conduct a search.
  2. Select the check box beside any results you want to save.
  3. Select Export Citation at the bottom of the results list.
  4. Select the BibTex format and Submit.
  5. Save the file to you computer.
  6. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  7. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.

  3. Select Save to BibTex and then Save at the bottom of the results list.
  4. Select the BibTex format and Submit.
  5. Save the file to you computer.
  6. In your Zotero dialogue box, click the cog icon, select Import, browse your Downloads for your saved file, and click Open.
  7. The saved reference(s) will appear in your Zotero account.
