Mindful Moms Mindful Meals
This photograph captured during the final session of the Mindful Moms Mindful Meals study displays a moment of connection. As I hold a baby participant who is laughing joyfully, her mother observes us from the background with a warm smile. Behind us, the presentation slide reads “Write a letter to yourself,” a reflective exercise used in the final session to help participants recognize their growth and intentions moving forward.
For me, this moment represents more than the conclusion of a research program. It reflects the trust that families place in researchers and the relationships that develop throughout community-based work. The infant’s laughter, the mother’s expression, and the reflective message on the screen together symbolize the heart of the project: supporting families, creating positive early experiences around food and caregiving, and translating research into meaningful moments of connection.
This image reminds me that research is not only about data or outcomes, but also about people, relationships, and the small moments that reflect real impact on families’ lives.
