History: The Bailey Geological Society was formed at the suggestion of Dr. Graham MacKenzie who saw geology as "a science so diverse in its branches, and advancing with such speed to meet present day demands in both the industrial and scientific world, that it requires a great deal more attention by the student than merely the formal lectures of the curriculum."

One aim of the society was to perpetuate the memory of Loring Woart Bailey, a prominant geologist and scientist for whom the society was named.

Activities: Members of the Bailey Geological Society meet to discuss important topics in the field of geology, watch instructional videos, and take field trips to explore the geographical features of the province.

Note(s): After formation the society became affiliated with the nationally famous Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

In 1961 the group mourned the loss of their organizer and most dedicated and enthusiastic member, Dr. Graham MacKenzie.
