Sir,
Permit me to state to You for
the information of His Honor the
President that those of the Ekoupahag
Tribe of the Malacete or St. Johns
Indians, who were assembled today
for the purpose of electing a Chief
and Captains, have in my presence
they
declared that ^ have unanimously
chosen Toma Francis (Son of the
late Francis Zavier deceased formerly
their First Captain) to be their Chief,
and Francis Nicola Ouwawes to
be their First Captain and Lewis
Ackwin to be their second Captain
I beg leave to add that as far
as my knowledge extends I think
the Choice judicious.
I am
