Fossil foraminfera can provide snapshots in time to track a variety of environmental factors such as changes in shoreline, species distribution , and ocean currents. These benthic foraminifera (Elphidium clavatum and Nonionellina labridorica) from nearshore Nunatsiavut have been measured via laser ablation mass spectrometry to examine ocean bottom water temperature records for the last 10,000 years for my PhD research. This information will give insight into changes in the Labrador Coastal Current, seascape evolution with regards to subsea permafrost, and the affects of changing sea level to nearshore environments.
