Urban wetland: Amazing habitat or ecological trap? Let’s see!

Wetland in an urban area. How do you feel? Isn’t it wonderful to have piece of natural green space in such a busy surrounding. I assume birds flying across this piece of land think the same and may decide to build their nest. They may be delighted to see emerging bugs from the wetland since they are good food for their babies. But what if they are contaminated… specially with heavy metals… toxic heavy metals…So I am going to trap these emerging insects, measure the amount of food production, quality of food production and transfer of contaminants to the higher trophic levels. Then I will be able to exactly say whether urban wetlands are supportive hubs or ecological traps for urban wildlife.
