Teach them young

Being a Ph.D. student in marine Biology comes with a lot of field trips to the ocean. From the first time I experienced the diversity and beauty of the seascape, I fell in love with Seaweed. I could not believe how many different species exist and how magical they look in the vast blue ocean. My last field trip to the Bay of Fundy to collect kelp specimens for my research was special because I was not alone. My unborn daughter Eloise was with me. I was 32 weeks pregnant and felt so good in my natural habitat as a young researcher. While being in the field collecting seaweed I talked to her and explained each species to her. Soon when she is older, I will take her to the ocean and show her the beauty of this fascinating ecosystem underneath the waterline.
