Early biologists get the birds
Honourable Mention

Two biologists walk along the edge of a wetland on an early morning in spring to count birds. Through my research at UNB, I am trying to understand how birds use human-created wetlands. We are working closely with Ducks Unlimited Canada and Acadia University to test strategies to improve habitat conditions for birds and other wildlife in Atlantic Canada. My fieldwork involves getting up very early and heading out to my sites for sunrise as this is when birds are most active. During the 2021 field season, we completed nearly 500 wetland bird surveys in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia!
