Scope and content: This series documents Ketchum's work over two decades in promoting, financing and constructing the engineering project for which he is most famous. It also reflects the financial difficulties which the Chignecto Marine Transport Railway Company faced as well as the popular interest which the project generated.

It includes estimates, statements of expenses, specifications, contracts, deeds, memorials, progress reports and copies of magazine and newspaper articles. It also includes photographs and drawings depicting various aspects of construction.
