Understanding Canada's Crime Dynamics : 2009-2023

Our research unveils a critical insight into the crime dynamics across Canada. Our insight highlights a gradual decrease in crime till 2015 and a surprising sharp increase after 2015 with persistent increase in sexual violence and assaults indicating possible policy or economic impact. 86.94% of all reported crimes fall in the category of violence and gender based crimes showing a disturbing reality. Although homicides and traffic violation was consistent, the growth rate for assault was astronomical. While the rational assumption of crime rates being high in highly populated provinces line Ontario and British Columbia is true, the crime scenario in sparsely populated provinces line Nunavut and Northwest Territories are  much worse. For Canada's 5 largest metro areas, Winnipeg is the most dangerous city in Canada while Calgary and Vancouver tops in the rank for violent crime and property related crime respectively. Our analysis further shows that women aged between 25-44 are disproportionately affected by crime highlighting prevalent domestic and workplace risk. Not only this severe crime situation hindering economic growth and achieving SDG goals for Canada, but also causing high skilled talents and investors to turn their face away amid the growing risk of uncertainty.
