Group Study Rooms

Group study rooms are available for the use of UNB and STU students. Library-specific policies and additional information can be found below. The following information applies to all UNB Libraries:

Fredericton

Harriet Irving Library

Group study rooms may be booked for groups of 3 or more students up to 6 days in advance using the online booking system. Room 204A may be booked for use by 2 students. The student who books a room must present a student id card at the Commons Service Desk to confirm the booking. The student must check out at the Commons Service Desk at the end of the booking.

The HIL has 8 group study rooms, of which 6 are equipped with Wireless Presentation Systems. These systems function with personal or library-loaned laptops. Information about the Wireless Presentation Systems is available from CETL. Media set-up instructions are also available at the Commons Service Desk.

NEW: At times when group study rooms are not booked, the space is available for student use; please note that drop-in users may be asked to relocate if the room has been booked by a group of 3 or more students.

Between September 1 and April 30, use of the group study rooms is restricted to UNB and STU students only. Other members of the university community can book rooms between May 1 and August 31.

Covered drinks and snacks are permitted in the group study rooms. Please be considerate of others by disposing of your garbage and leaving the room clean.

Science & Forestry Library

Four study rooms are available. All are equipped with white boards; markers are supplied.

Two of the rooms are equipped with SMARTboards which can be used to facilitate collaborative or project work and presentation preparation.

Rooms may be booked up to 6 days in advance using the online booking system. You may no longer make bookings over the phone or at the desk.

Between September 1 and April 30, group study rooms are intended for UNB and STU student use only. Between May 1 and August 31, all members of the university community are allowed to book group study rooms.

Please remember that uncovered drinks and food are not permitted in the rooms.

Engineering & Computer Science Library

Two study rooms are available and are both equipped with white boards (markers are available at the front desk), LAN drops, and wireless internet access. Each room will seat six people.

Rooms may be booked up to 6 days in advance using the online booking system. You may no longer make bookings over the phone or at the desk.

Please remember that uncovered drinks and food are not permitted in the rooms.

Saint John

Hans W. Klohn Commons

The Hans W. Klohn Commons has 9 study rooms available for study groups with seating capacites ranging from 4 to 8 people. Each room comes equipped with a whiteboard and 46-inch flatscreen monitor. Whiteboard markers and laptop hook-ups are available at the Information Desks.

  • Rooms are available for periods of up to two consecutive hours.
  • Bookings are limited to no more than 1 booking per day and may not be made more than 1 month in advance.
  • Others may be waiting to use these rooms, if you are unable to make your booked time, please cancel your booking.
  • The person making the booking will receive an email confirmation listing details.

Users are reminded that these rooms are designed and intended to be used for academic purposes only: meetings about a class project; group study; class presentation preparation; and the like. Those using the rooms for unacceptable purposes (such as parties) will be asked to vacate the room, regardless of whether or not another group is waiting. Repeated violations of study room privileges may result in users being prevented from booking and using a study room in the future.
