Reference Universe is a unique database that provides searchable access to UNB Libraries’ collection of reference materials, both online and on the shelf.
Reference Universe searches through the tables of contents and the indexes from over 20,000 dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, almanacs, and other reference materials, and connects you to relevant articles through:

  • Links to Quest (the library catalogue)
  • Links to full-text online reference entries

Search Reference Universe:

By default, only materials available at UNB Libraries are included in your search results. To search beyond UNB Libraries, be sure to select “Non-Local Holdings Only.” Your search results will include both online and print materials.

Online…
You can easily identify online materials by noting the “e-source” symbol. In the example above, click on “Link to 1 Article Title,” then click on the “e-link” for the article you wish to view.
On the shelf…
Click on the title to connect to UNB Libraries’ Quest catalogue in order to find out exactly where the book is located.
Reference Universe also returns a list of article titles and/or index entries related to your search. Click “View Article Title” or “View Index Entries.”
