Henry George Clopper
Ketchum is numbered among the more illustrious alumni of the University
of New Brunswick. In 1854, he first enrolled at King's College
(later UNB) where he took the engineering course being offered by
Thomas McMahon Cregan, a British engineer. In the years that
followed, Ketchum focused his engineering interest on the
construction of railways. In 1862, H.G.C. Ketchum was awarded the
first diploma in Civil Engineering given by UNB. Throughout his life, Ketchum remained interested in the University of New Brunswick. Under the terms of his will, a silver medal, known as the “Ketchum Medal”, has been awarded since 1897 to the top graduating student in Civil Engineering, based on work in the final two years of the program. |
