Pax keyboard request

November 23rd, 2012

I would like to ask if a PAX keyboard could be supplied for disabled persons on some of the computers in the Harriet Irving Library.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. We have passed your request along to the Assistive Technologist, Coordinator at Accessibility Services, here at HIL to investigate pricing of this keyboard.

Searching and passwords

October 11th, 2012

Hi, Just wondering why I need to sign in with a password to do a search when I do not have to do this when searching the u of Toronto online libraries.

We encourage UNB users to login to the WorldCat catalogue in order to take advantage of the linking to fulltext available through the catalogue for many of our licensed journals and eBooks, but it isn’t necessary that you login.  Below the login to UNB Libraries bar (oval, really) there is an option to “continue as a guest”.  Guests, or UNB library users who have not logged in,  can search the catalogue holdings but will not be able to link to fulltext.  UNB users are generally keen to link when it is an option.

The U of T catalogue allows searching without a login, but then requires a login to access licensed resources once they appear in a result list.

I hope this answers your question.  Please let me know if you are interested in further information.

Best regards,

Lesley Balcom

MacIntosh Adapter Request

April 12th, 2012

We should really get some Macintosh video cable adapters, as presently Mac users must provide their own to use the smart boards in the study rooms.

Thanks for your request.  Harriet Irving Library has purchased one full set of all VGA adapters from the last 3-4 iterations of the macbook line. Also have a 2nd set for just the modern macbooks. So there are 2 different reserve item packages.

Commons Cafe

March 2nd, 2012

As the only place to eat in the library is the café, students should be encouraged to eat at the café and as soon as possible vacate the tables to allow other students to eat.  There are other tables for group study/chat in the library.

In response to such a high demand for seating during the hours of 11:00 am – 2:00pm, new tabletop signage has been created to help manage the traffic during these hours.  Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Coffee

March 2nd, 2012

I think you should serve/brew locally roasted Fair Trade coffee, not Star Bucks.  “Just Us”, Nova Scotia or local NB roasters  – Grand Manan Company, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to comment about coffee options for the Café.   We have passed your suggestions along to Sodexo.
