UNB Writing Centre Launches Drop-In Service

On September 25, the UNB Writing Centre launched a drop-in service in the Learning Commons. On Tuesday and Thursday from 6-9pm Writing Centre staff are available in Room 116 to help students not only with questions on essay, report, and thesis writing, but in note-taking, time management, active reading, and exam preparation. LIVE Online

LIVE, UNB Libraries’ virtual reference service, is now available from the Learning Commons. Take LIVE for a test-drive and you will discover an online real-time environment where students can work collaboratively with HIL library staff to find library resources. Following each session, students receive an emailed transcript of their session.

LIVE is available Mondays through Thursdays, from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. Look for the link under Ask a Librarian on the UNB Libraries’ home page.

Print Hub Established In the Learning Commons

All print jobs sent on HIL's 1st floor can be easily accessed from our centralized Printer Hub located in the main Learning Commons area (beside the Research Help Desk).

Group Study Rooms Ready for Booking

Our new group study rooms are now available to be booked by students for two hours. The rooms come equipped with the latest SMART Board technology, so don’t forget to ask for a for a SMART kit when you pick up the room key.

As construction continues, computers and seating have been temporarily relocated to the new group study rooms in the west corner. Please ask library staff for directions, or consult the current first floor plan for details.

HIL Learning Commons Update

Have you taken a peek at the new Learning Commons space in HIL? The 1st floor space is receiving lots of positive feedback from faculty and students about the open, modern design. Drop by, grab a coffee at the Commons Cafe, and take a look. New in the Commons this week:

  • Comfy, dark-green armchairs;
  • 22 new computer workstations with the latest software are up and running (in the Research Help Desk area);
  • Group study rooms are available for booking at the Commons Services Desk;
  • IT Help Desk is now staffed from 10:00am ¬ close (9:00pm on Fridays). Drop by to see IT staff if you are having any problems connecting your laptop or PDA to the UNB network.

HIL Reference Desk is relocating

The HIL Reference Desk is closing as of Monday, June 25th due to the renovations taking place on the first floor of the building. Service is temporarily being offered from the Government Documents Information Desk on the 3rd floor of HIL. Reference service hours have not changed.

Phase Two Renovations Begin
Renovations begin on March 7 in the Harriet Irving Library to make way for new group study rooms. The area affected is on the main floor and includes the Demo Room and adjacent offices.
